By creating the Annual Calendar in 1996, Patek Philippe has had great success with this elegant complication. Previously only available in precious metals, i.e. gold alloys (yellow, rose or white) or platinum, it now becomes available in a more accessible and versatile material; stainless steel. This break from tradition for the Annual Calendar complication does not mean any corner has been cut. And as usual, stainless steel remains a rare material at Patek… Here's a look at the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar 4947A.The patented Annual Calendar by Patek Philippe was previously only available in gold or platinum, but now comes in stainless steel Calatrava-style case. The 38mm wide and 11mm high case will fit almost any wrists (call it unisex if you prefer) and is fully polished, bezel included. Combined with the 5-link steel bracelet, it gives off a more modernistic vibe despite the classic elegance of the dial. Time is indicated with leaf-shaped hands filled with a luminescent coating, reinforcing the casual look of this watch. The Annual Calendar indication is divided into two subdials and a date window. The first subdial, at 09:30, indicates the day of the week where the opposing subdial shows the month. A third subdial displays the moonphase, and all three are decorated with a circular pattern. Applied Arabic numeral, in polished white gold, again bring a more modern approach.Under the dial, and visible through the sapphire caseback is Patek's classic Calibre 324. This automatic movement is already used in various other Patek Philippe's and is fitted here with an annual calendar and moonphase module, turning it into the 324 S QA LU. This automatic movement is fitted with a 21k gold rotor with the Calatrava cross engraved on it. Consisting of 328 parts, including 10 bridges and 34 jewels, it is of course impeccably decorated. The movement runs at a frequency of 4Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour. The power reserve is specified to be between 35 and 45 hours. The movement needs only one correction per year for the Annual Calendar complication. Of course, the movement gets the Patek Philippe seal, complying with Patek's own high standard of quality, precision and finishing.?The Patek Philippe Annual Calendar 4947A comes on an integrated stainless steel five-link bracelet, fully polished to match the Calatrava-style case. The price for this watch is EUR 41,700.More information on Patek.com.
