Mysterious and enticing, the colour black is a much-used element in watchmaking. Sometimes for the sake of contrast and sometimes purely for styling purposes. Black touches on a dial, case or movement can give a new look to a watch, which we regularly see being done. Bvlgari has played around with the achromatic colour on several occasions across all its collections. Now it’s Bvlgari Bvlgari’s turn, one of the brand’s oldest collections still in production. This basic round watch can look back at more than 40 years of evolution and now comes in an all-black suit with the new Bvlgari Bvlgari 103540.Bvlgari presents two versions of the Bvlgari Bvlgari in full black, a 33mm quartz model and a 41mm mechanical version. The Bvlgari Bvlgari comes in a relatively simple round stainless steel case with the signature Bvlgari Bvlgari design. The case has integrated lug sections, a double-signed bezel (much like the Bvlgari Aluminium, just not rubber coated) and a see-through caseback. The entire watch, minus the steel crown, has been coated in black DLC. A sapphire crystal covers both sides of the watch. At 12 and 6 o’clock, Arabic numerals break up the pattern a little. The hands for the hours and minutes have a simple sword-like shape, with a needle-like seconds hand. All dial elements have been polished to form a stark contrast against the black background. The final detail is a date window at 3 o’clock. The sapphire caseback reveals the in-house manufactured BVL191-Solotempo movement. This runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and delivers 42 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The movement is nicely finished, with C?tes de Geneve on the plates and bridges and an engraved and gold-filled Bvlgari logo on the central rotor. The Bvlgari Bvlgari in black DLC-coated steel comes on an integrated steel bracelet which has also been fully coated, obviously. It is part of the permanent collection and is available on the brand’s website now, retailing for EUR 5,300.For more information, please visit Bvlgari.com.
